A 24-year-old Florida woman is facing numerous criminal charges after allegedly slamming an SUV into a parked car and subsequently attempting to downplay the collision during a roadside interaction with law enforcement. Newly released video recordings captured both the violent collision and the bizarre exchange between the driver and responding police officers on the scene in Daytona Beach.
The incident unfolded on August 30, when authorities were dispatched to investigate a vehicular collision. Surveillance footage obtained by law enforcement revealed the high-impact nature of the crash, showing an SUV violently colliding with a stationary Honda. The force of the impact was strong enough to push the parked vehicle entirely across a front lawn until it disappeared from the camera frame.
Despite the severe physical evidence of the wreck, the driver, identified as Elizabeth Boucher, presented a drastically different narrative when questioned by responding Daytona Beach police officers. The interaction, preserved through police body camera footage, showed Boucher attempting to minimize the magnitude of the vehicular collision.
When an investigating officer approached Boucher to inquire about the circumstances surrounding the crash, she offered an understated summary of the collision. She claimed that she had merely struck the front light of the vehicles involved and stated that she did not fully understand what had occurred during the incident.
The responding officer quickly pushed back against Boucher’s downplayed characterization of the collision. Bodycam footage captured the officer directly disputing her claims, pointing out that she had not simply clipped a headlight, but had instead forcefully removed the vehicle from its parked position and pushed it across the yard.
As the encounter continued, the roadside interaction took several unusual turns. When the officer asked Boucher to produce her standard driver's license for identification, she instead reached into her belongings and handed the officer a passport. The officer immediately corrected her, identifying the document as a passport before repeating the request for her valid driver's license.
During the ongoing roadside assessment, Boucher began issuing direct, personal appeals to the officers on scene in an apparent attempt to avoid formal arrest. She repeatedly pleaded with the officers not to incarcerate her, bringing up an electronic smoking device in her explanations. She told police that it was just a vape that did not even function properly, begging them not to take her to jail over the situation.
Boucher also attempted to appeal to the officers on an interpersonal level, telling them during the roadside dialogue that she believed they were all friends. The responding law enforcement personnel remained focused on their procedural responsibilities, with one officer reminding her that they still had a duty and a job to perform regardless of her appeals.
As the officers gathered more information and observations from the scene, the nature of the law enforcement response shifted. An officer formally informed Boucher that the inquiry had officially transitioned from a civil traffic crash assessment into a criminal driving under the influence investigation.
Following the formal escalation of the probe, the officer read Boucher her Miranda rights on camera. Law enforcement personnel then asked Boucher if she would be willing to participate in standard roadside field sobriety exercises to assess her physical and cognitive condition. Boucher refused to undergo the requested sobriety evaluations.
The investigation progressed further as officers formally requested that Boucher submit to a breath test to determine her level of impairment. In line with her earlier refusal regarding the field sobriety exercises, Boucher declined to provide a breath sample for testing.
Throughout the arrest process, Boucher continued to speak with the officers, stating that she was not resisting arrest and voicing her concern about her child. She told the officers that her main focus was ensuring her daughter received whatever care and support she needed.
During the interaction, the bodycam footage also recorded officers providing physical directions to Boucher to maintain her balance. An officer instructed her to rest against a vehicle specifically so she would not fall down onto the ground. As the encounter reached its conclusion, Boucher asked officers if she was going to be taken to jail.
Boucher was taken into custody by the Daytona Beach Police Department and booked on a comprehensive list of offenses. The formal allegations filed against her include driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, DUI involving damage to property or another person, battery, resisting an officer without violence, and possessing a controlled substance without a prescription.
Court records indicate that following her arrest and formal booking, Boucher has entered a plea of not guilty to all of the charges filed against her in connection with the August 30 collision.
